As some of you may remember, I had a question for Oppo. Apart from some people not understanding the basic premise of the situation, I got pretty good suggestions. Thanks!

I’d like everyone to know that I took to heart all of your statements and concerns vis a vis the two competitors and bought the phone few suggested. I got the Microsoft Lumia 950!
I couldn’t live without my live tiles and the iris scanner is too freakin’ awesome to pass up. I love unlocking my phone with a glance! Speaking of glance, I have Glance back too which is fuckawesome. Microsoft’s Outlook client blows iOS’s mail out of the water and, since that’s a primary concern, Microsoft certainly won my business. Add in full-blown Office and the whole Continuum thing and, from a business perspective, Apple’s phone doesn’t cut it. Hey Cortana works like a charm too and it’s seamless on both of my vehicles’ Bluetooth setups. I had a lot of fun this weekend talking to the car :)

Microsoft’s Outlook is on iOs. I honestly thought Microsoft abandoned their phones until this post.
Learn something new every tday.

let me know how you like the 950. Vermont is a Verizon State (seriously, look at the coverage maps... it’s not even a contest.), but if the 950 is good enough I might consider slumming it with AT&T to own one...

Outlook is on iOS as well but it’s a different look and feel altogether. They haven’t abandoned it either; they’ve just created a unified structure across all devices (PCs, tablets, phones, XBoxen). The 950 comes with Windows 10, 32GB storage, micro SD card up to 200GB (the biggest available right now) and is cheaper than the iPhone. It supports Qi and PMA wireless charging out of the box too. QHD display, 2560x1440, 564 PPi with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

All that matters is you’re happy with it.

And I am. I’ve loved the new Windows since 7.5 and 8 made it that much better. HTC seriously soured me but in the end I realized it was their shitty phone, not Microsoft, that was causing me so many troubles.

If Microsoft and Verizon could agree to allow the Lumia Icon to upgrade to W10 I would just keep using mine until it dies (which could be never) The hardware is SO GOOD. It’s got the memory and CPU grunt to run W10, thats no problem... just freaken’ VZW... :P

Yeah I was just reading up on that. There’s some bullshit between MS and VZW for sure.

Ok, it’s been 10 days, I’m seriously interested in a first-hand report from a *USER* as opposed to a reviewer on this phone. My GF’s iPhone 4S is litterally being held together by it’s case (LifeProof Fre, man is that ever an AWESOME case...). She’s on AT&T and I’m on Verizon... we’re both out of contract at this point, so the question is which carrier do we family-plan with? Real reports from 950(xl) users will be of heavy influence in this decision...

10 days in and I’m still loving it. The iris scanner hasn’t lost its novelty yet; in fact I use it nearly every time I have to unlock the phone. It works great, even through glasses. Hey Cortana is a productivity boon. The screen is awesome, the camera is great, the speaker is decent. Bluetooth is flawless. My only issue has been with the Netflix application which as required multiple reinstalls due to some DRM conflict. Guess this is a Win10 only thing but has been minimally impactful.
Here are two pics I took today:

Asshole dogs ;) the camera module is literally the same lens and sensor unit in my Icon, just with the fancy color flash... So I know what to expect there. I’m more interested in the W10 mobile experience, and how the hardware feels/works in real life. Also, do you have the XL or the plain? I generally don’t love huge phones, but the XL makes the spec-geek in me all swoony...

I have the 950 non-xl. Hexa-core instead of octo-core and a smaller screen, that’s about it. (Same processor, just two cores are locked. I may experiment there...)
As far as W10 mobile experience, the only website that doesn’t work is Kinja. I have to type super slow to keep Kinja from freezing and re-loading the site. Everywhere else works just fine. Live tiles are still as awesome as they ever were but the experience on this QHD display is awe-inspiring. I miss the Here brand of applications, particularly Here Transit, but I’m making do. The feel of Windows 10 is not unlike 8.1; no learning curve here. The extra (hideable) settings rows in the notification center house things like WiFi/cell/Bluetooth and airplane mode switches, built-in flashlight and rotation lock. They put nearly everything I need right on the notification center. The new Outlook is wonderful; binding all your accounts to a single instance. You can switch back and forth without having to back out to the start screen. The calendar is much more user-friendly and accessible too.
Hardware wise, the phone does feel not-quite like a flagship should. The polycarb back is kinda cheap and doesn’t have the feel or heft of the 920's polycarb shell. That being said, it’s easily removable and replaceable; Mozo makes some awesome shells with wireless charging and NFC capability. On wireless charging - it has Qi and PMA, so I can wireless-charge anywhere :). It is light, or at least it
feels
light, particularly for its size. Liquid cooling is the best thing ever. It adds to the lightness of the phone, keeps heat even and I haven’t had any of the “going nuclear” problems experienced on the 920 or One (M8). It may feel cheap but it is uncannily sturdy. Even with the removable back - which I have removed hundreds of times so far showcasing the phone for friends - there are no creaks or groans to be heard; something even my 920 had problems with. It seals quite well too; I haven’t found dust in any places it shouldn’t be.

Haha! kinja doesn’t work right on ANY mobile browser except Android Default (but only the latest version) and Safari (but only the latest version) and *sometimes* Chrome (but only the latest version) Excellent, this is what I like to hear!
Sadly I also feel like the loss of Here Maps and Drive+ will be noticed :/ nice to know they have actually managed the heat well, despite the removable plastic back. I LOVE wireless charging and have Qi chargers everywhere...

The Here suite has been replaced with a well-functioning maps application. The navigation section works just as well as Drive+ did (if not just a tad better) and the maps are largely unchanged. I miss the route selection and map-ability of the transit application mainly.
